Demonstration 2: Remote Control of a Fieldbus Display
(Display Applet)
In this demonstration you will remotely control a CAN fieldbus display which is
installed in the Automation Lab of the Fachhochschule Reutlingen.
In order to provide a visual feedback of the status of the Display we also
installed an interactive Web camera.
Figure 1 depicts the hardware and software setup of this demo.

Figure 1: Display Setup
Instructions:
-
The Display-Client is automatically started while this web site is loaded
and appears as a separate Java applet window on your desktop.
The client then tries to allocate the Display-Server. When it succeeds,
the Selectron I/O module (see Figure 1) is reset to its default state and
Applet Ready appears in the status line of the window.
-
Open a new browser window by clicking the 'Open Web Cam' button.
-
Please wait until you receive access to the camera and
the words 'You are in control' appear in the status display of the camera
remote control.
This may take some time depending on the number of users currently competing
for access to the camera.
-
Clicking on Preset 1 on the camera remote automatically focuses the
camera on the display
-
You can control the status of the individual letters of the display by (de)activating
the corresponding checkbuttons of the Display-Client and observe the results
with the camera. Further feedback is provided by changing the colors of the letters
in the Display-Client window with respect to the current activation state of the
corresponding output line of the I/O module.
The 'Start' and 'Stop' buttons let you start or stop a dynamic
modification of the status of the display.
